origins
Welcome to WAM, a network of women with ADHD.
WAM started out in 2017 as a support group for women with ADHD called Women with ADHD Meetup. We got together every two weeks at CAMH (the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health) in Toronto, Canada. We switched to online meetings because of the pandemic, and as a result, we now have members from many parts of the world.
Once the pandemic is over, WAM will have three types of support group platforms:
-continue with regular online meetings
-start up again with in-person meetings at CAMH in Toronto
-travel around Southern Ontario to meet with women with ADHD
locally, such as in the following areas: Hamilton, London, Barrie,
Peterborough, Kingston, Ottawa…
The coworking methods we use at Pick One Thing were developed from 2015, when a few of us folks with ADHD started getting together regularly in library meeting rooms in the Greater Toronto Area.
Meeting for three hours, we would start by declaring what we intended on working on, then a timer would be set for an agreed-upon period such as half an hour. When the timer went off, we would set it for ten minutes to discuss whether we were able to stay on task. If not, we would non-judgementally problem-solve, such as reminding one another to put new priorities that came up aside in a list, or talking about anxiety that might be causing avoidant behaviour. Then we’d set the timer for another work period, and on we would go until the three hours were up.
Twice-a-week Pick One Thing sessions started online in January 2021.
